Jesse Hill Jr.: A Life of Bridging the Divides

Jesse Hill Jr. (1927–2012) was a trailblazing civil rights activist and business icon who bridged Atlanta's racial and economic divides. Rising from an actuary to CEO of the Atlanta Life Insurance Company, he secretly bankrolled protests and provided bail for activists.

Hill championed voting rights, helped desegregate the University of Georgia, and became the first Black president of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. A master coalition builder, he fundamentally transformed Atlanta into a major metropolitan center.
